With the beginning of summer comes the urge to redesign my life! This probably stems from my carefully and thoughtfully designed summer bucket lists of my childhood, planning out the immaculate vibes for my summer break to come. Nowadays, I’m not in school any longer, but the need to plan exciting activities and a new workout plan always seems to return when summer begins. If you’re like me, maybe you feel the same! The warm air and sunshine bring out a nostalgic excitement from your bones. It seems this is my way to continue my old bucket lists, through writing the ways we can best romanticize the season. Here are some of the best things to do in the summer!
Pick An Outdoor Hobby To Stick With All Summer
One of the best ways you can romanticize the season is to do things in the summer that are outside! Take advantage of the warmth while it lasts and do something in your wheelhouse that’s in the outdoors. From morning golf tee times, to pickleball/tennis/basketball/soccer/softball leagues. Joining a team or group can be a great idea as it allows you to be more social as well as getting some sunshine in. Take advantage of the beautiful weather while it’s here!
There are plenty more things you can do solo, like hiking, outdoor walks, plan and train for your own (walking or running) 5k/10k/half marathon/marathon. You could make a weekly walking group with your mom or your friends or someone in your neighborhood. Also you could do this for sunrise or sunset to romanticize it even more!
If those don’t appeal to you, you can simply stand or sit outside for ten minutes with your bare feet in the grass and the sun shining on your face. You can do this in combination with reading a book or laying in a $20 tanning pool off amazon to enjoy the sun in a relaxing way. I promise YOU will feel so much better!! It’s sad that it’s in fact that damn phone. Leave it inside in a drawer for an hour while you’re outside and you will feel reborn. Socialize More!
As humans, our mood and feelings can easily sync up with the weather. People get seasonal depression during the winter since it’s cold, and no one wants to leave their house! Balance this out by planning to be more social than normal this summer!
This could be planning day trips to hang out with your college friends, host a dinner party with a fun theme, have a BBQ with your family, get coffee with the new people you’ve met through the league you joined in the above section! One of the best things to do in the summer is to match the season and be warm. Invite people in, spread love, give hugs, and shine as brightly as you possibly can! Talk to more strangers, complement the person in front of you in line, ask people for advice on what to order, TALK TO OLD PEOPLE. This is especially important to me as I know how hard it can be to make friends after college! Take more care in the pleasure of small talk.
Personally, I love the adrenaline of talking to people I don’t know. This only heightens in the summer, when people are generally more happy and open. One of the best things to do in the summer is to chat, chat, chat with everyone you see!

Give Back!
This year (and currency US presidency) is EXHAUSTING. There’s bad news about how humans are being treated at least daily. In fact it’s like we’re being bombarded by terrible information at every moment. But we need to remember all hope is not lost. For all the bad there is, we can make a conscious effort to create good in our area/neighborhoods. Sign up to volunteer!
Do a little research on ways you can give back to your community. You could help the girl scouts organize their cookies they are about to deliver, sign up to volunteer at a race, a retirement home, or a soup kitchen. One of the best things to do in the summer is to help out any organization that is meaningful to YOU.

Plan Something To Look Forward To
Summer is nostalgically exciting. Memories of the freedom of being released from school, relaxing without a care in the world, doing fun things all the time. While summer does not look the same as it used to, we should still be doing fun and exciting things to romanticize the season and continue the fun summer feeling.
One of my favorite ways to spice up a summer is to plan a trip! This can be as big of an ordeal as you want it to be and as fits your budget. Go somewhere new, whether it’s out of the country or a monthly day trip to a new place to want to check out! I planned a day trip to Mystic, CT with my mom, cousin, and aunt, and had a fantastic time! It was about an hour away, and it provided some of that summer excitement without breaking the bank and not too much commitment.
And don’t be afraid to do things by yourself! Some of my favorite trips were solo, whether it’s days out of the country or a trip to NYC! Solo trips are the most fun and empowering times that I think everyone should try! I love finding cheap flights out of JFK, taking the AirTrain, and not letting anything stop me from traveling! If you’re considering if you’d want to go on one, take a peak at this post.
One of the best things to do in the summer is to sign up for a class! This might sound daunting, but it can be about anything that strikes your interest. Learn about something you’ve always want to know more about at a cheap community college class. Or a class on how to knit or sew or something cool. Expand your mind and keep your brain sharp this summer!

GET IN THE WATER
I am assuming it’s warm wherever you are reading this from. Here in CT, it’s hitting the low 80s by 10am if not earlier, getting into the low 90s at times. The way to make the heat feel enjoyable it to relax in the water. I think it’s like an evolutionarily cure to being sad or bored. If you live near the coast, take a drive to the beach (though you will never catch me in the LI sound – GROSS) ((before they cared about how our waste impacted the environment they would dump it all in the Sound which is why this area has one of the highest breast cancer rates in the NATION).
Find a friend with a pool, or better yet a BOAT. An alternative optionFor me and my mom, we bought a reasonably priced tanning pool on amazon. We fill that baby up and put it in the backyard and it’s fantastic! Find a way to stay cool this summer.

Conclusion
This summer is flying by, but it surely isn’t over yet! Make the most of this time and use these things to do in the summer to make it one you’ll never forget!
