When I was planning where to stay while in Athens, I was genuinely shocked at the price of this hostel. You’re telling me that for 30 euros a night I can stay here AND get free breakfast? It sounded too good to be true! Now that I’ve stayed at Yellowsquare Athens, I want to tell you how it really was, so when you go to Athens you can have the best trip ever (like I did – itinerary here).
Location & Safety
Where the hostel is located, is normally my first criteria I look at when deciding where to stay. I personally don’t need to be right in the middle of the busy touristy area, but would like to be within walking distance from the things I want to do.
Yellowsquare Athens Hostel was about a 15/20 minute walk to Plaka, one of the very picturesque areas below the Acropolis. This was a totally doable distance in my personal opinion. I enjoy wandering through the city and learning how to get around with any maps or assistance.
The area Yellowsquare Athens is in, is a slightly more residential area that has some construction happening across the street, as of October 2025. I noticed throughout central Athens in general, there are a decent amount of homeless people on the streets. Growing up going into NYC, this is unfortunately not something that phases me anymore, but is something to know. Even though Yellowsquare Athens is a bit outside of the touristy area, you will still see these homeless people.
While one day, I’d like to go back to Athens and stay more in the center, I think for this pricepoint, it was completely worth it and is a great low budget option.

Free Breakfast
After the hostel’s location, if they have, or do not have, free breakfast is the next thing I check. Included in my $30 a night cost was free breakfast, which if you book directly through their website, is included in most room fares.
I have to say, Yellowsquare Athens offers potentially the best free breakfast I have ever received at a hostel! You are able to choose one dish off their entire food menu to order. There is no price you have to stay under. I most often order a dish that has scrambled eggs, pita, bacon, fresh fruit, french fries, your choice or juice, and a coffee. The coffee was made by a barista and you could specialize your order in any way you’d like. This breakfast was for one, delicious, and two, full of protein that kept me energized to explore Athens all day long.
They have breakfast options for people with every kind of dietary restriction, all made in the back by a cook! Many hostel breakfasts are buffets, but not here at Yellowsquare Athens. This free breakfast took me completely by surprise and made my trip all the more enjoyable.

Amenities
One thing I did not read beforehand was about the many amenities that Yellowsquare Athens has to offer. I was pleasantly surprised while exploring all the many floors of the building. One of the top attractions that I did know about was the rooftop bar. It has a beautiful view of Athens in all directions as well as a view of the Acropolis. With the roof lined in string lights and fun ambient music, I found myself drawn to the rooftop every night. Seeing the Acropolis lit up atop the Athens skyline was a surreal and peaceful experience I looked forward to daily.
Yellowsquare Athens also has a small workout space. The room looks like a dance studio, with wooden floors and a mirror covered wall. In the space there are yoga blocks, yoga balls, and weighted balls that you can use. I didn’t personally workout, but it was a nice option to have.
The last amenity I was impressed by was the coworking space. This area has multiple rooms, the main one has a small kitchen with tons of places to sit, with 5 study rooms you can get work done in in private. If I was staying for longer, I would have absolutely utilized this space to be productive during my trip.
With a myriad of amenities, Yellowsquare Athens is a great place to stay if you’re looking to travel long term or continue with your daily habits on the go.

Cleanliness
When people have an objection to staying in hostels, the usual drawbacks are not wanting to stay in a dorm with other people and that they are dirty! I am happy to share that I found Yellowsquare Athens extremely clean.
I stayed in a four person dorm with a single bathroom shared, and I quickly realized that someone came to clean the bathroom on a daily basis. They would provide a new bathmat, which was helpful as the floor sometimes would get wet since the glass wall by the shower doesn’t extend far.
Throughout my five days at Yellowsquare Athens, I didn’t notice anything or anywhere to be dirty. After years of working in hospitality, it’s something my eyes find instinctively. When I stepped out of my bed without shoes on, I didn’t realize I forgot my flip flops as the floor was that clean. All the glasses, mugs, and plates I saw at breakfast were spotless. The sheets were pristine with no stains in sight. Yellowsquare Athens was one of the cleanest hostels I have ever been in.

Conclusion
After reviewing the location, safety, free breakfast, amenities, and cleanliness, I can say that without a doubt, Yellowsquare Athens is well worth the price tag! With delicious breakfast food, being walking distance from Plaka, great amenities, and a clean atmosphere, you truly cannot beat what they offer.
